SEO Over Optimization – How to Avoid Over-Optimizing Your Website

One of the biggest mistakes when it comes to content is over optimization. This happens all of the time by business owners, writers, and SEO companies. In many cases, business owners and writers make this mistake because they are following outdated, or just plain bad SEO advice.

This happens so frequently because people have it in their heads that you should have a keyword on a page as many times as possible. But in reality this does more harm than good.

While it is important to have keywords on the page, it is even more important to not overdo it, because when it is overdone it just looks spammy. Keyword stuffing also tells search engines that you are trying to game them, and that is never a good thing since it will throw a red flag.

Years ago keyword stuffing did work, but as search engines got smarter the effectiveness of that strategy diminished. Search engines are very sophisticated now when it comes to detecting unnatural content, which is what any content that is just made for SEO is.

Write as You Would Naturally Speak

Writing your content as you would naturally speak if you were engaged in a conversation has many benefits. First off, it is easier for people to relate to. When done properly it will sink in better for most people because they will feel more of a connection to it since it is written much like a conversation might go.

An excellent strategy to ensure that you are writing as you would speak is using a voice recording app to speak your mind on the chosen topic. Then you can take the audio and transcribe it to text to create the content.

Include Related Keywords

It is still important to include your main keyword in the content, but it is also important to include a couple of keywords related to what you want to rank for. Related keywords look natural and will add value to the post, and it will also give the post the opportunity to show up in search for these terms.

Each related keyword should only appear once within the content, and including 2 related keywords is a good strategy to follow.

When doing keyword research you will discover many related keywords, and you can also find some excellent related keywords right in Google.

When doing a search for your main keyword you just need to scroll all the way to the bottom of the search engine results. At the bottom of the results is where you will find the suggested keywords that Google considers related.

Write “Snack Sized” Paragraphs

In this day and age people do not like to read as much as they did in the past. That is why video and images are so popular these days, people prefer getting their info that way. If you were to create the same content as a blog post and also as a video 8 out of 10 people would choose the video over the written content.

This is why “snack sized content” performs better in most niches. Short, to the point paragraphs look less daunting to people and is easier to follow and comprehend for those reading the content.

Create Useful Content

Creating content that will be beneficial to others is also something that you need to keep in mind. One of the other issues that you will see many SEO/internet marketing people make is creating “SEO fluff content” that is stuffed with keywords.

Content that is clearly only created to try and manipulate search results may do well at first, but eventually it will drop quickly since Google considers it low quality, spammy content.

On the other hand, when creating useful content, you are giving them exactly what they like to see, helpful and informative content.

With that being said, the very first thing that needs to be done when brainstorming content is figuring out who the audience is. Next you need to ask yourself what topic will be useful for that audience.

If you focus on creating helpful natural content, and write it as you would speak, you will reap the benefits and will become an authority in your niche.
